Body By Leverett is proud to announce “Give to the Girlz,” the 2012 campaign to raise money for local charities supporting those diagnosed with breast cancer. “Every day women are diagnosed with breast cancer. We would like to support affected patients and breast cancer research and development organizations continually, not just during Breast Cancer Awareness Month,” said Dr. Larry Leverett, the founder and medical director of Body By Leverett.
Body By Leverett’s goal is to raise $35,000 this year to disburse between three charities. For every silicone breast augmentation performed, $250 will go to a charity of the patient’s choice. “Our three charities have helped thousands of women battle breast cancer. The plethora of women affected by breast cancer continues to rise at an alarming rate and we want to do our part to help defeat this epidemic,” said Dr. Leverett.
Patients may choose from the following charities:
Happily Ever After League (HEAL): provides financial support to mothers during their recovery from cancer. HEAL grants assistance to 5–10 mothers every month, distributing about $50,000 per year. Their goal is to never turn away a qualifying mother in need. In addition to providing financial assistance, HEAL hosts monthly social and outreach events and operates a food pantry for families in need of healthy groceries.
Coalition of Blacks Against Breast Cancer (CBBC): raises breast cancer awareness in the African-American community. CBBC’s goals are to educate, provide access to treatment and better understand the health care disparities among African-American breast cancer patients. The group hosts monthly meetings where breast cancer survivors can share their stories and Mayo Clinic-sponsored seminars. CBBC also organizes a team for the annual Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure.
Phoenix Affiliate of Susan G. Komen for the Cure®: coordinates advocacy, community outreach, support for survivors, fundraising and distribution of grants. The Komen Phoenix Affiliate is one of 120 international affiliates and serves central and northern Arizona; 75 percent of the Affiliate’s net income stays within the community to fund breast cancer services. The Affiliate’s signature fundraising event is the annual Komen Phoenix Race for the Cure.
Giving back to the community has always been a top priority for Body By Leverett. “We are confident we will meet our goal for 2012, and are excited to give patients an opportunity to give back to the community,” said Dr. Leverett.
