IPL Photofacial vs. Laser Resurfacing
IPL photofacial treatments and laser resurfacing address two distinct cosmetic concerns. IPL photofacial addresses problems that involve skin color, while laser resurfacing improves the texture of the skin, such as lines, wrinkles and pore size. For patients who have a combination of skin damage, Dr. Leverett may recommend a combination of IPL photofacial treatments and laser resurfacing.
Good Candidates for IPL Photofacial
Our IPL photofacial can be used on any area of your face or body, such as:
- Back of the hands
What Can I Expect from My IPL Photofacial?
The photofacial is performed with intense pulsed light (IPL) technology. IPL targets a specific part of the skin that gives it color. By adjusting the settings for the light energy, Dr. Leverett is able to precisely target your cosmetic concern. The procedure takes about 30 minutes. The light energy is administered in short bursts, and each application feels like a slight pinch on the skin. The sensation is mild to moderate and easily tolerated by most patients.
After the IPL Photofacial
If you are treating vascular lesions or brown spots, these areas will darken immediately after the treatment. This is normal and indicates that the treatment is working as expected. Two to 14 days after the treatment, you will develop a microcrust that indicates that your skin is healing. The damaged cells are eliminated naturally by your body, and you begin to see clear new skin. Dr. Leverett recommends three treatments at three to four-week intervals for maximum improvement.
