Choosing the Right Breast Implants for You

Breast Augmentation & Implants in Phoenix, AZChoosing your breast implants is one of the most fun and exciting parts of your breast augmentation. There are so many different types of breast implants, coming in all shapes, sizes, and materials, and it can be hard to choose which one is right for you. Let’s go over breast implant basics so you can make sure you’re choosing the perfect implants or your perfect breasts.

What are Breast Implants Made of?

Breast implants come in various sizes, shapes, and materials that all result in a different overall look to the breasts. We’re going to go over each type of implant available at Body By Leverett so you can get a feel of which options you have to choose from.

· Saline Breast Implants

Saline breast implants are made with a sterile saltwater solution encased in a silicone shell. These implants are often the more affordable option for patients and are approved by the FDA for patients 18 and older. Because saline has the consistency of water, underneath thin skin, the folds of the saline implant may be visible causing a wrinkling or rippling effect on the breast. Talk to Dr. Leverett to see if rippling may be a concern for you in the event you choose saline breast implants.

· Silicone Breast Implants

Silicone breast implants have grown to be the more popular option for patients over the years. This implant is filled with a thicker, stickier silicone material than its saline-filled counterpart. With the silicone implant being more firm, it creates a much more natural look and feel to the breast. While it is the more popular option, it is only approved by the FDA for use in patients 22 and older.

· “Gummy Bear” Breast Implants

The “gummy bear” breast implant is the newest innovation in breast implant technology. This variation of the traditional silicone implant affectionately got its name from the way the gel material inside the implant sticks to itself, meaning less mess in the event of a rupture or other complication. “Gummy bear” implants also come in a signature teardrop shape that better mimics the shape of natural breasts.
