Rhinoplasty, or a nose job, is one of the most common procedures performed today. Having an unusually large nose can affect both your self-esteem and your health. Board-certified plastic surgeon Dr. Larry C. Leverett performs rhinoplasty and other cosmetic procedures for the residents of Ahwatukee, Chandler, Glendale, Maricopa County, Mesa, Scottsdale, Tempe, Gilbert, and the surrounding areas of Phoenix.
What is Rhinoplasty?
During a rhinoplasty procedure, Dr. Leverett uses surgical techniques to reshape the nose. This treatment allows nose surgery patients the opportunity to reshape the nose to a more pleasing appearance. Some rhinoplasty procedures can also reconstruct the nasal passages in order to improve breathing.
How Much Does Rhinoplasty Cost?
The cost of rhinoplasty varies depending on the extent of reshaping being done, the specific surgical techniques used and other considerations. Most insurance companies consider nose jobs to be an elective cosmetic procedure and, therefore, do not generally cover the costs. To help make nose surgery more affordable to his patients, Dr. Leverett offers financing through CareCredit® and Prosper Healthcare Lending. Our office also accepts Visa, MasterCard, American Express, Discover, cash and cashier’s checks.
Benefits of Rhinoplasty
Your nose is sometimes the first thing people see when they look at you. An overly large nose can draw more attention than you may like. Rhinoplasty offers many benefits to patients who suffer from a large or oddly shaped nose. Some of the benefits include:
- A more aesthetically pleasing nose
- Better breathing with less discomfort
- More self-confidence
Candidates for Rhinoplasty
If you are unhappy with the shape, size or overall appearance of your nose, rhinoplasty may be right for you. People who have suffered trauma to the nose due to an accident or illness may be good candidates. Anyone with breathing difficulties due to nasal imperfections can benefit from nose surgery.
Your Rhinoplasty Consultation
Your consultation is a very important role in planning for your rhinoplasty procedure. Dr. Leverett will first determine your areas of concern and review the features of the nose from different angles. He will also perform an internal exam to determine if any additional procedures need to be done to reconstruct the nasal passages and improve breathing. Our office is equipped with a digital imaging system that allows Dr. Leverett to make aesthetic changes to an image of your nose and give you an idea of your expected outcome.
Your Rhinoplasty Surgery
Rhinoplasty surgery is usually performed on an outpatient basis. In some cases, it can be done under local IV sedation and other times under general anesthesia. Upon your consultation with Dr. Leverett, he will help in determining which is best for you.
Recovery From Rhinoplasty
Following a rhinoplasty, patients will have a splint on the nose that is removed five days following the procedure. Although not often, in certain cases patients may need packing inside the nose which is removed in two to three days. Depending on the necessary procedure, patients may have bruising under the eyes. Our patients start anti-bruising remedies prior to surgery to reduce bruising and often use topical products after surgery. Swelling is expected after surgery and gradually subsides. The results continue to enhance over the period of one year. Many return to work in seven to 10 days.
Frequently Asked Questions
Do people notice a rhinoplasty or nose job?
Will health insurance cover the cost of rhinoplasty?
As a cosmetic procedure, most rhinoplasties are not covered by health insurance. However, if you have any functional problems with your nose, such as a deviated septum or difficulty breathing, your rhinoplasty will likely be covered by health insurance to some extent.
Is rhinoplasty painful?
With modern technology and surgical techniques, you can rest assured that you will be completely safe and comfortable during your rhinoplasty procedure. The only pain associated with this treatment is the soreness and swelling that develops after surgery. However, pain medications and the application of ice packs can reduce these symptoms. Any painful symptoms typically subdue within a few weeks.
How old must I be to undergo rhinoplasty?
While there is no set minimum age for a rhinoplasty, many surgeons agree that patients should postpone receiving surgery until early adulthood. Since the facial structure continues to grow and develop through the teenage years, a rhinoplasty may interfere with the body’s natural development. Still, there are some scenarios in which a nose job may be appropriate before this time. You may want to discuss your concerns with your surgeon so that your unique treatment goals can be properly addressed.
