How Painful is a Breast Lift

Breast Lift (Mastopexy) in Phoenix, AZOne of our patients’ biggest deterrents for their cosmetic procedures is the discomfort that they’re going to feel during and after surgery. We want to ensure all of our patients that modern technologies have made all of our cosmetic procedures as pain-free as physically possible. We wanted to share with you some of our most helpful hints for recovering from your breast lift in the most comfortable way possible.

During Your Breast Lift

Before we talk about recovering from your breast lift, let’s go over what is going to happen during your procedure. Prior to surgery, you will be put under local IV sedation. This is just to ensure you remain as comfortable as possible throughout your procedure.

Breast Lift Recovery

Following your breast lift, it’s normal for patients to experience swelling, bruising and tenderness around their treated areas. That being said, patients typically return to their normal daily activities including work in just seven to 10 days following their procedure. Many patients report not needing their prescription pain medication after just three to five days, and most patients are able to return to their normal lives after just three weeks.

Top Tips to Manage Discomfort After a Breast Lift

We know that seven to 10 days of discomfort still sounds like a daunting task to some of our patients. Here are some of our most helpful tips to getting on the road to recovery quickly following you procedure, so you can get back to living your life comfortably as soon as possible.

  • Take prescription medication regularly as directed by Dr. Leverett. Leverett will likely prescribe pain medication that you or your loved one can pick up from your local pharmacy following your procedure. It’s important to follow the instructions directed by Dr. Leverett, and be thorough about taking your doses accordingly.
  • Make sure your breasts are well-supported during recovery. Following surgery, we’ll discuss your options for proper breast support. We typically recommend a light support bra/bralette that will be comfortable and supportive.
  • Relax and rest with your upper body at an incline. One thing that causes our patients the most discomfort is the swelling in their chest following surgery. We encourage our patients to rest with their upper body at an incline. This helps promote healthy circulation throughout the body and prevents excessive swelling.
